How to grow Opium poppy plants

The Opium poppy plants are the product of the opium poppy seeds of course, but what are they? The opium poppies are a special kind of plant that belongs to the papaver family, that is actually called Papaver Somniferum and such a name is not a coincidence, because this plant has its own history. In the past the opium poppy plants were used in a medicinal way. The opium poppy used to cure several illnesses that nothing else could control, that’s because of the agents that the seeds of the plant contains, that produce the effect of numbness that helped people to get through strong pains and other diseases. They were very useful in every single part, the seeds were effective in thirst, fever, inflammation and irritation of the stomach, while the root was and still is employed as one of the ingredients in several cooling medicines. An infusion of the root is given as a fever relieving drink and a powder for bilious complains. The essence of the root is used as tonic because of its stimulating qualities. It is believed to check vomiting in cholera too. Also the seeds can give relief by the opium effect, even if it sounds illegal, some of the seeds that are on the stalks of the plant are the ones that contain the opium itself. They have soporific properties and are used beneficially in griping pains after childbirth, colic and pain in the testicles. But these seeds are not used so much in present times because they are illegal to grow, and in some countries this is very serious, you could go to jail if you are caught growing these plants. But if you don’t care about laws and you just want to have your own garden full of opium poppy plants, well there is nothing else to do, but to put ourselves to work.

The area that you have chosen for the sowing of the seeds must be where sunbeams get straight to the seeds, because they need them to grow. After the seeds are sown, you should put a thin layer of earth just to cover them from the wind and other factors that could mess with the accommodation of your seeds, that must be clearly separated between each other due to the need of space to grow. Watering them until the first sprouts are out is a must and then you must lower down the rhythm of the water until the first leaves come out, then you can continue watering them as you did before. With patience and some fertilizing, you will soon have your one-meter flower, if you are lucky.
